Surrounded by Time goes straight to number 1! Some great tracks, all suiting TJ's older voice, and my favourite No Hole In My Head, has a great hook, TOO BAD! The thing is, I would guess that I couldn't put any of these songs in to my trib set as there are too many classics that just can't be dropped! I'll always do a few requests so long as they're songs that people know (there's nothing worse doing a song and everyone's bemused why you're doing it) I have to say, the most requested song that I do is The Boy From Nowhere, and happily, I love to sing it as well. So I guess it's a case of sticking...
So lately, I've been reading a lot of stories in the press, mainly because TJ is on the Voice and the fact he's bringing out a new album. The thing that needles me is that every single one of them always start off by calling him 'the Welsh Crooner'...
Having just watched TJ's Impromtu song on the voice, Solomon Burke's don't ya feel like crying, he just never fails to nail any song he tries, even at 80 years old and what's more impressive is that its not rehearsed, he just does it! I have to give a special.mention as well to the musical director David Tench, he plays the keyboard for the band on the Voice, I was lucky enough to work with him over 20 years ago when his first pro job after graduating from the world famous LIPA, Paul McCartneys school for performing arts, and you could just tell then he was unbelievably talented, so well done to him as well! ...
Soooo, after almost 10 months without performing, the year is drawing to a close and its all steam ahead for 2021! I say that with a little trepidation as I don't think that I will be on a stage for a couple of months just yet, probably not until a vaccine has been rolled out and taken by most of the population. I will be crossing my fingers and everything else that we get back sooner rather than later as not being able to work or perform weighs heavily when its all you've ever done. Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a merry Xmas and hopefully a happy new year X . ...
Looking back on some of my Stars in Concert performances! https://youtu.be/dYSZTU2VeMU ...
Wow, my last show was back in late Feb, and I've got to be honest, the last thing I've thought about is performing as there are a lot more important things to worry about. Its not just my own health, its my family's and the people I love dearly that really matter. I had resigned myself back in June that the possibility of now working again may happen and so it takes the pressure off, the stress and worry of no income, I've always tried to not worry about the things I cannot control, so what will be will be, you can't take what I don't have! I feel when we do get back though it will be a very,...
Since the Corona Virus hit us hard in mid March and all the venues and pubs closed down, the virtual reality stars have come out the closet and we now have every man and his dog being an entertainer/singer for the masses, for who ever wants to watch them on FB. I've seen so many Karaoke men sing longer on FB than they ever have at any gig in their lives, its like a second calling! That's me being forever the cynic by the way, look I get it, its strange times and you can say and do whatever you want, there will be some who make something from this, like those who never had the bottle to actually get...
So, this year 2020, I am hoping to push on with the live shows , I've got myself a great band together and we are looking to do a small tour later in the year! The band are all really experienced players, we've already done a few gigs together and as a seasoned performer there's nothing quite like it. I have always played live gigs when I can, especially in the early days around Lancashire and Manchester, there was always a drummer and keyboard player in most venues so I had all of my sets written out for them. of course with the demise of the club circuit they tended to go more for self contained acts as it was cheaper...
Since moving to Ireland, the one thing that really annoys me an embarrasses me at the same time is the way venue's and agents alike call me the UK's No1 Tom Jones Tribute? If you look anywhere on this site, you will not see one mention of me thinking I am the best at anything, let alone being a tribute to TJ. I may say I am 'one of the best' but this to me is a broader reflection on what I have done in the past, the shows I have been in and how other tributes, my peers perceive me and of course how good some of the other TJ's are, and there are some really good ones out...
