14 Apr FB live is the new reality TV
Since the Corona Virus hit us hard in mid March and all the venues and pubs closed down, the virtual reality stars have come out the closet and we now have every man and his dog being an entertainer/singer for the masses, for who ever wants to watch them on FB. I’ve seen so many Karaoke men sing longer on FB than they ever have at any gig in their lives, its like a second calling! That’s me being forever the cynic by the way, look I get it, its strange times and you can say and do whatever you want, there will be some who make something from this, like those who never had the bottle to actually get up in front of an audience but can do it in their kitchen or front room, may now have the confidence to ‘have a go’ and that’s great. I just find it a bit cringey, egotistic if you like, I don’t love the sound of my own voice, oh I know you’ll say its not like that, you want to help someone in their hour of need, but seriously, as a performance, give me the option of watching Bobby from the local pub singing karaoke classics for an hour or a £10 million blockbuster film then I know the latter will win every time. The fear is, that the more you do it, the more you can become a pain in the arse to everyone? See, its not like going to a venue to watch someone where there is that live experience, sound and lighting, an actual audience and atmosphere that gets you up for enjoying a gig, there’s just nothing, its emotionless, soulless, bare, void of any natural adrenalin, so when people have already experienced it once, they may make a choice to switch off, and they can do it as quick as at the click of a button, this is what its become, reality TV, I do it whenever Love Island or Big Brother comes on! That said, I applaud their endeavour and commitment, it just wouldn’t be me. When this is all over, and I hope to god its very soon, I will be doing my part in a host of events to raise money for the hero’s who are on the frontline of this epidemic, the ones risking their lives for us, keeping it all together day in day out in our hours of need. Maybe I’ll FB it live! STAY SAFE.
